Identification and assessment of hazards is the starting point for any proper approach to the prevention of workplace injuries and illnesses.

Target audience

Those responsible for OHS, supervisors, OHS committee members or others involved in OHS.

Contents

Any proper analysis must start with adequate knowledge of work-related risks and/or hazards. But how do you pinpoint the dangers associated with various work roles? This course is intended to prepare participants to take a risk assessment approach in their place of work.

Mechanical, chemical, electrical, ergonomic risks, etc., are reviewed.

The following factors are addressed:

  • What is a risk?
  • The type of hazard and its effects on health and safety;
  • The principal applicable legislative elements;
  • Some tools for identification and assessment;
  • Good methods of prevention.

Educational approach

Theoretical lectures are supplemented by various learning activities: exercises, case studies, role playing and discussions.

Duration

Four to six (4 to 6) hours.
